So, they do look a bit different. My question is, do I go with the one she pointed out, or upgrade? I want to get her the more expensive one, but perhaps she would not like it as much? The more expensive one has a bigger/same quality diamond, but doesn’t have the bling around the loops. Please, I need a woman’s opinion here.

I’m just happy she pointed me directy at what she wants. I just got a new job so $250 on the necklace won’t be an issue, and she deserves to be happy.

On a side note, I kind of have a problem with buying diamonds as they are useless as jewelry and seem to be a money machine that forces men to spend a lot of money on a rock. Do I REALLY need to prove how I feel by how much money I invest in jewelry? Is this not shallow of women to expect such things? And worse, couldn’t it be a blood diamond? It seems so silly to spend cash on something as trivial as a diamond. Alas, my girlfriend doesn’t have that view.

The diamond in their grandmothers engagement ring is going to be used for my fiancees ring. Keep in mind again, the girls are splitting the jewelry evenly. Her sister got the diamond appraised for $4700 and expects half of the price as her share. I am pretty sure you would not get face value of the appraised diamond.
This affects my soon to be fiancees as the less money I put into the diamond will go towards her band.

so the questions I pose is

Rather than giving her half ($2350) , what would be a fair amount for both sides?
I will get a couple more appraisals,

so average out the 3 appraisals and give her half?

It’s the commercial where the husband can’t wait to give his wife her gift so he wakes up in the middle of the night and gets the diamond necklace out of the old grandfather clock downstairs. He then proceeds to drape it around her neck and then goes and pretends he’s sleeping. She wakes up and sees it and leans over to him. He is clearly pretending he’s asleep and then you see a slight smile on his face. It’s soo sweet, and I love that song that’s playing. It sounds kind of like Regina Spektor.
