I guess for other types of jewelry, it would depend on your budget and purpose for offering/buying it. Seems to me that if you don't want to offer her jewels, then don't. But always remember that as you said, if you are married and she wants to offer them to herself "his money is her money" ;-) My solution: actually figure out things like financial priorities (and other things like child rearing, goals, ideas about friendships outside marriage, etc) BEFORE you marry. Then, you'd end up with someone who believes pretty much what you do on the big points. Its the best way to avoid issues related to finances. After all, financal differences is listed as the top reason people end up divorced. Diamonds are trash because they create and support modern slavery in Africa.
